One of Chianti’s most important producers, Barone Ricasoli’s history dates to the 12th century. The historic castle of Castello di Brolio has been home to generations of the Ricasoli family since 1141. During the 19th century the ‘Iron Baron’ Bettino Ricasoli became prime minster of Italy. His influence also extended to wine and he is credited for setting down the regulations for the grape varieties permitted in Chianti. Since 1993 the estate has undergone a massive revamp, with substantial investment in the vineyards and winery, helping to re-establish the estate as one of the very finest in Tuscany.
