Henschke Hill Of Roses Shiraz

Henschke Hill Of Roses Shiraz

The Hill of Roses is an Australian equivalent of a lieu-dit or a specific, prized plot within a hallowed vineyard. In this instance, we are speaking of Australia’s most famous single vineyard, Hill of Grace. The Hill of Roses plot was planted in 1989 as a nursery block, tended according to organic and biodynamic practices. The decision was made to keep its wines as a stand-alone articulation of younger vines, lacking the 35-year threshold of maturity to be included in the Hill of Grace cuvée. Yet the geological nuances here are distinctive, making for a floral, svelte and energetic wine marked by kirsch, tapenade, dried sage and typically Eden Valley florals and tea leaf. Whether this nuanced cuvée is eventually incorporated into the Hill of Grace Shiraz remains unknown. What is certain is that it is an absolutely delicious wine deserving of its place in the LANGTONS firmament.
