Ata Rangi Masters Chardonnay, Martinborough

Ata Rangi Masters Chardonnay comes from winemaker Helen Masters and her husband Ben’s home vineyard, situated four kilometres south of the Martinborough township. Unlike the stony terraces typical of the region, this site features clay-rich soils that impart depth, texture, and concentration. The cooler aspect preserves crisp natural acidity, creating a single-vineyard expression of clear distinction.

In the cellar, Helen Masters employs a hands-off approach to prioritise fruit purity. Wild fermentations in French oak barrels build texture without masking the vineyard's footprint. Careful barrel selection and subtle lees contact deliver a wine with fine structural focus and age-worthy tension.

Every vintage shows aromas of white peach, grapefruit, lemon pith, and toasted hazelnut. The palate is precise, offering fresh stone fruit, green apple, and a distinct line of saline minerality. A driving, clean finish completes a Chardonnay of real authority.
