bartolo mascarello
BARTOLO MASCARELLO, Barbera d'Alba 2023 Bottle
About this wine
Bartolo Mascarello, Barbera d'Alba
Bartolo Mascarello stands as a benchmark of traditional winemaking in the heart of Barolo. While famous for crafting some of Piedmont's most sought-after Nebbiolo, Maria Teresa Mascarello applies the exact same uncompromising rigour to Barbera d'Alba. Sourced from high-quality organically farmed plots, this cuvée offers a direct insight into the estate's pure, unadorned philosophy.
Fermentation takes place in traditional, neutral concrete tanks using ambient yeasts. The wine then ages for up to 18 months in large Slavonian oak casks, known as botti, completely avoiding small, new barriques. This gentle approach preserves the true varietal character, letting structure and natural balance guide the wine rather than oak flavour.
Expect a fragrant glass defined by ripe dark cherry, wild plum, crushed herbs, and subtle violet notes. The palate is vibrant, driven by Barbera's signature bright acidity, balanced with fine texture and deep fruit concentration. It remains a versatile table wine, ideal for drinking over the next decade.
