bartolo mascarello
BARTOLO MASCARELLO, Barolo DOCG 2021 Bottle
About this wine
Bartolo Mascarello, Barolo DOCG
Bartolo Mascarello stands as a benchmark of traditional Barolo. The estate rejects single-vineyard bottling, drawing instead on a precise blend of historic sites across Barolo and La Morra, including Cannubi, Rocche dell'Annunziata, San Lorenzo, and Rué. Sourcing Nebbiolo from these distinct terroirs yields a singular, balanced expression that reflects the region as a whole, not an isolated plot.
Maria Teresa Mascarello's winemaking follows the uncompromising methods of her late father, Bartolo. Fermentations occur in old concrete vats using native yeasts, followed by extended skin maceration. The wine matures exclusively in large, neutral Slavonian oak botti, entirely eschewing small French oak barriques to preserve pure varietal character.
Every vintage delivers classic, lifted aromas of dried rose petal, sour cherry, tar, and subtle forest floor. The palate offers firm, fine-grained tannins, bright natural acidity, and deep red-fruit flavour alongside savoury iron and spice. Structured and linear, it is built for exceptional longevity.
