About this wine
Bass Phillip Wines Estate Pinot Noir, South Gippsland
Bass Phillip’s Estate Pinot Noir is a complex wine with superb fruit intensity and structure. It displays vibrant red berry fruit, and layers of earthy, mineral complexity that unfurl, and evolve over time. The biodynamically managed Estate vineyard is close-planted to 8,500 vines/hectare and cropped at a low one tonne/acre. Soils in the area are free-draining and mineral rich which can encourage high vigour. This, coupled with the region’s high rainfall, can lead to disease pressure; therefore, careful management of the canopy is essential. Meticulous management of the vineyard ensures the Estate Pinot Noir consistently expresses enchanting fruit purity, multi-layered complexity and a sense of place unlike any other in Australia.

Jane Faulkner
As all BP wines are under cork, this and the Reserve both appeared forward and lacked freshness, opening a second bottle of each had them in tip-top condition. So, this is positively spritely with bright acidity an undercurrent to the ripe fruit flavours. Expect cherries and exotic spices, chinotto/amaro, a whiff of menthol with a slinky, supple palate full of plush tannins. Concentrated, beckoning and an excellent estate pinot - Jane Faulkner, 23 May 2024

Huon Hooke
Impressively deep red-purple colour; aromas of vanilla/chocolate and toasty nutty possibly barrel derived characters dominate the nose at first, and with time in the glass raspberry and some Campari whole-bunch characters arise. The wine is full and firmly structured, loaded with fruit, tannin and vitality. A strongly constituted pinot noir with the intensity and structure to age well. There is a deep core of dark fruit that emerges with time in the glass, so be patient. 19 DEC 2023 2025–2034
