Benjamin Leroux 1er Cru Caillerets, Volnay-Caillerets
Benjamin Leroux sources fruit from half a hectare of old Pinot Fin vines in Caillerets-Dessus. Positioned mid-slope on thin, limestone-rich soils, this site is widely regarded by local growers as the finest Premier Cru in Volnay.
Leroux employs a light touch in the cellar. Fermentation uses a high proportion of whole bunches and natural yeasts. The wine matures for about 12 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with new oak kept to roughly 25 to 30 per cent to preserve clarity and site character.
Expect a fragrant nose marked by red berries, crushed rose petals, and subtle spice. The palate delivers red cherry fruit, silken tannins, and vibrant acidity, backed by a cool, chalky mineral finish.
