BENJAMIN LEROUX 1er Cru Charmes Dessus, Meursault 2022 Bottle
About this wine
Benjamin Leroux 1er Cru Charmes Dessus, Meursault
Benjamin Leroux is widely regarded as one of the most gifted winemakers of his generation. Formerly the manager of Domaine du Comte Armand, Leroux launched his own label with a focus on organic and biodynamic viticulture. The Charmes-Dessus parcel sits at the very top of the Les Charmes vineyard, bordering Meursault Perrières. This specific location provides a cooler microclimate and shallower soils, resulting in a wine of greater tension and mineral focus than the broader village average.
In the cellar, Leroux employs a minimalist approach to preserve site expression. The fruit is whole-bunch-pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts. Maturation occurs in French oak puncheons, larger than standard barriques, to moderate the wood's influence. The wine typically spends 12 to 18 months on its lees, which builds a structural foundation without sacrificing the fruit's natural acidity.
The nose offers lemon curd, white flowers, and a distinct flinty note. On the palate, the wine is concentrated yet linear, showing flavours of stone fruit and toasted almond. It is a bottle defined by its energy and persistent, salty finish, offering the prestige of a Premier Cru with the technical precision Leroux is known for.
