About this wine
Borgogno Barolo Annunziata Riserva
Borgogno is one of the oldest estates in Barolo, with a history in the region dating back to 1761. This Riserva originates from the Annunziata subzone in the village of La Morra. The vineyard is situated on south-east-facing slopes, where Tortonian soils of calcareous marl and sand predominate. These specific conditions yield Nebbiolo with a distinct structural elegance and aromatic lift.
The winemaking follows traditional Piedmontese methods. Fermentation occurs in concrete vats using natural yeasts and extended skin contact. The wine then matures for six years in large Slavonian oak casks to allow for slow oxidation and tannin integration. This long ageing period in the cellar ensures the wine is released only when it has achieved a balanced maturity.
On the nose, the wine reveals aromas of dried rose, cherry, and leather. The palate is medium-bodied and precise, featuring flavours of redcurrant and liquorice. Firm tannins and a clear acidity provide a structural frame that leads to a persistent, savoury finish. This Riserva offers the prestige of a historic producer alongside the refined character of a top La Morra site.
