About this wine

Carillon d'Angélus, St-Émilion - Second wine of Château Angélus

Carillon d’Angélus is the second wine of Château Angélus, one of Saint-Émilion’s most renowned estates, currently led by Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal. First released in 1987, Carillon is drawn from dedicated plots on the cooler slopes and foot of the hill, where Merlot dominates, supported by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Winemaking follows the same attention to detail as the grand vin, with gravity-fed vinification, temperature-controlled wooden vats, and élevage in French oak, typically with fewer new barrels to preserve fruit purity.

Each vintage of Carillon delivers a clear expression of its origin: dark berry and plum fruit on the nose, with hints of graphite, cedar and dried herbs. The palate is structured yet supple, with fine tannins and freshness lending shape and length. While made for earlier drinking than the first wine, Carillon carries the mark of Angélus and performs well with mid-term cellaring.

ABOUT THE WINERY
Chateau Angelus
Chateau Angélus is one of the most renowned estates of St-Emilion. Currently designated Premier grand cru classé (A) in the most recent 2012 Classification of Saint-Émilion, the estate is owned and managed by eighth generation Hubert de Boüard de Laforest and his cousin Jean-Bernard Grenie. Located in the centre-west of the St-Emilion appellation, the estate’s vineyards are planted on a warm south-facing slope. The Grand Vin is a dense, unctuous blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, that can appear slightly austere when young, developing greater generousity and richness with age. A second wine called Carillon d’Angélus is also made
