About this wine
Château Beauregard, Pomerol
Pomerol, Saint-Émilion’s neighbour, is located to the north-east of Libourne and is the smallest of Bordeaux’s prestigious appellations, covering just 800 hectares (1,976 acres) of vineyard. Its outstanding terroir is largely made up of clay-gravel soils in which the Merlot, the king grape variety of the region, finds its full expression alongside the Cabernet Franc, which is planted on the deepest gravel soils. Beauregard is situated at the entrance to the appellation and covers an area of 17.5 hectares (43 acres), making it one of the largest Pomerol estates. Its grape composition is 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. In 2016, 4% of Cabernet Sauvignon was added to the vineyard, and these grapes will enter into the blend within a few years.
The vines have reached an average grand old age of 35 years, while every new plantation is planted at the very high density of 9,200 vines per hectare.
The wine-making facilities at Beauregard have been completely redesigned with a new, high-performing gravity-flow vat cellar containing 22 temperature-controlled tronco-conical concrete vats of 60 to 80 hectolitre capacity, which enable extremely precise plot by plot vinification. Two barrel cellars, one of which has a gravity-flow system, follow the strictest rules of fine wine ageing.
'Château Beauregard’s position on the south-east edge of the famous Pomerol plateau enables the property to grow vines on fascinating, precious land.'

The 2019 Beauregard is powerful, deep and super-expressive. There's terrific depth and resonance here. Black cherry, mocha, espresso, licorice, dried flowers and menthol power through. This is an especially muscular style that is more about impact than subtlety. Even so, the progress here over the last few years is worth noting. The 2019 is big, bold and delicious. Tasted two times.

A perfumed nose of blackberries, blueberries, dark cherries, sweet praline, chocolate and dried lemons. Medium-to full-bodied with fine tannins. Beautiful sweetly spiced fruit with a fleshy texture and a flavorful, creamy finish. Drink from 2025.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Beauregard offers up notes of warm red and black plums, blackberry coulis, and black raspberries with hints of fallen leaves and fertile loam. Full-bodied, it has bags of black fruit preserves and earthy accents, framed by rounded tannins, finishing long and minerally.

Sweet dark fruits on the nose, like black cherry jam with lovely touches of Cabernet Franc apparent in the herbal, perfumed nuances. Super soft and succulent, this is rich and concentrated but delivered in a velvet glove - sculpted. Clearly powerful with a dark core of black fruits but with such an appealingly smooth texture and lift all the way through. Freshness is key here and this has a cooling mint, liquorice and mineral aspect from start to finish. Svelte and supple, this has structure and sophistication. A classy, well made wine. Easy to recommend. Tasted three times.

From an estate that appears to be on an upward trajectory, the 2019 Château Beauregard is a textbook 2019 with its pure, elegant, seamless style. Black cherries, darker currants, leafy herbs, and floral notes all emerge on the nose, and its wonderfully textured, medium to full-bodied, has gorgeous tannins, and a great finish. It's up with the 2018 and certainly one of the finest vintages I've tasted from this address. It will drink well for 15-20 years.
