About this wine
Château Carbonnieux Rouge Cru Classes, Graves
Château Carbonnieux is one of the oldest estates in the Graves, with a history of red wine production dating back to the 14th century. Classified in the 1959 Graves classification, it remains one of only six estates recognised for both red and white. The vineyard lies on deep, gravelly soils south of Bordeaux, ideally suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and smaller parcels of Petit Verdot. Today, the estate is run by Eric Perrin, with winemaking led by Gabriel Vialard. Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled vats before ageing in French oak, approximately one-third of which is new. The style is built on clarity and balance, featuring fresh red and black fruits, graphite, and dried herbs, with fine tannin and a clean finish. With age, the wine develops notes of tobacco, cedar, and earthy spice, making it a substantial addition to any cellar. It’s a classic left bank wine with consistent appeal at a fair price.
