About this wine
CHATEAU DE PEZ Cru bourgeois, St-Estephe
Château de Pez, one of Saint-Estèphe’s oldest châteaux, lies on a plateau of deep gravel and clay-limestone, its history stretching back to the 15th century. Today, the vineyards—principally Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with a little Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot—are divided into 70 plots for precise, parcel-by-parcel winemaking. Hand-harvested fruit is vinified with a focus on terroir, then matured for 12–18 months, including a sizeable portion in new French oak. No filtration is used, preserving the wine’s character. In the glass, expect dark, expressive aromas: blackcurrant, red berries, fine tobacco, and floral notes. The palate is harmonious, balancing ripe cassis, redcurrant, clove and liquorice with refined, grainy tannins and a long, savoury finish. Château de Pez offers both structure and immediate charm, rewarding both early drinking and long cellaring.
