About this wine
Château Lascombes Cru Bourgeois, Margaux
Labegorce is found just north of the town of Margaux, opposite Château Lascombes. It produces wines that are often favourably compared to its neighbouring classified Margaux Growths, but available for considerably less of an investment. Its instantly recognisable and iconic Château was constructed in 1821, and the modern estate was purchased by Hubert Perrodo in 1989, now managed by his daughter Nathalie.
The wine is typically made up of at least 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, followed by slightly less Merlot and a small balance of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Soils here are primarily sandy gravel with small amounts of limestone.

Jane Anson
Slate, liquorice, rose bud, cassis, this is really joyful and great quality, powerful even thought the fruits are slim and savoury. Nathalie Perrodo owner. 30% new oak. 3.60 pH. Harvest 23 September to 10 October. The blend given is as planted in the vineyard, not specific to the vintage.

The 2024 Labégorce has a nicely poised bouquet with crushed violet-tinged black fruit. The oak is nicely integrated in this Labégorce, a little "fuller" than its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. The 2024's fine backbone lends satisfying grip and weight, even if it doesn't quite have the complexity of the best recent vintages. It might well improve by the time of bottling.

The 2024 Labégorce is laced with succulent dark cherry fruit, mocha, new leather, espresso and licorice. Copious new oak works well for this wine. Labégorce offers quite a bit of immediacy in a pliant, flamboyant style.

A perfumed and spicy nose, showing fresh herbs, blackcurrants, dark cherries and a touch of wet stones and white pepper. Juicy and bright on the palate with structured, fine-grained tannins and a solid finish of good length. This has some midterm potential.
