About this wine
Château Malescot-Saint-Exupéry 3rd Cru Classé, Margaux
Château Malescot-Saint-Exupéry, a highly respected 3rd Cru Classé estate, stands proudly in the prestigious Margaux appellation of Bordeaux. This historic winery, with roots tracing back to the 17th century, has earned its place as a paragon of winemaking excellence. Nestled in the heart of Margaux, known for its gravelly, well-draining soils, the estate's vineyards provide an ideal terroir for cultivating Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot.

A careful balance of modern viticultural techniques and traditional wisdom is employed to ensure the utmost quality in each bottle. The grapes are hand-harvested, and great attention is paid to the nuances of each plot. The resulting wines are a sublime expression of Margaux terroir, showcasing a harmonious blend of structure, finesse, and complexity, with flavours of ripe dark fruits, subtle floral notes, and a velvety texture.

Inky in colour, roses, slate, liquorice, cassis bud, this is slim but with grip and texture, lifts through the palate and is an enjoyable if understated wine. 50% new oak. Harvest 1 to 15 October, Léa Zuger owner.

The 2024 Malescot Saint Exupéry has a cohesive nose with ample scents of blackberry, raspberry, light violet and just a touch of cedar in the background—backward, for sure, but it unfurls in the glass. The medium-bodied palate has firm tannins, a little chewy in a pleasant way with composure and bite on the finish. This is a thoroughly enjoyable fresh Margaux that will drink earlier than the 2022.

The 2024 Malescot Saint Exupéry is a bit brawny and rough around the edges at this early stage. Élevage will play a determinant role here. There's good energy, but the 2024 is also edgy in its contours and fragile in its balance today.

Aromas of violets, dark cherries and blueberries follow through to a medium-bodied palate with chewy tannins. Slightly angular, but there is a good center palate to hold the fruit. Structured, with a medium-long finish. 53% merlot, 40% cabernet sauvignon and 7% petit verdot. 50% new oak this year in contrast with 60% last year.

Perfumed aromatics. Intense and expressive. Nicely ripe and chewy - even a touch sweet - at first before becoming more sleek and tapering with cool blue fruit and salty stones. It’s ripe but also not so expressive on the finish, more calm right now. Sleek, refined and well presented, just compact and tight right now.
