CHATEAU PALMER Historical XIXth Century Blend, Vin de France 2023 Bottle
About this wine
Château Palmer Historical XIXth Century Blend, Vin de France
This unique bottling from Château Palmer pays tribute to a forgotten era of Bordeaux winemaking. During the nineteenth century, it was common practice to "hermitage" Médoc wines by adding a small percentage of Syrah from the Northern Rhône. This technique provided the structure and depth required for long-distance transport. Château Palmer revived this tradition in 2004, creating a limited release that combines estate-grown Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with a portion of high-quality Syrah.
The winemaking remains faithful to the Margaux estate’s standards. The Bordeaux components are vinified in the gravity-fed cellar, while the Syrah is sourced carefully for its aromatic intensity. The final blend matures in French oak barrels to ensure the disparate elements integrate.
The nose offers aromas of violet, blackcurrant, and a distinct note of white pepper. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with firm tannins. Flavours of dark plum and spice lead to a dry, structured finish. This is a rare acquisition for collectors seeking a historical perspective on French blending.
