About this wine
Château Trotanoy, Pomerol
One of the most celebrated wines of Pomerol and Bordeaux, Château Trotanoy has been in the JP Moueix Stable (which includes amongst others La Fleur-Pétrus in Pomerol and Dominus in the Napa Valley) since 1953. It is perfectly situated on gravel and clay on the Pomerol plateau, not far from Pétrus, Trotanoy's 7.2ha is planted to 90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc. With naturally low yields, Trotanoy is one of Pomerol's most profound and concentrated wines needing at least a decade and usually longer to start hitting its straps.

A very fine-tannined red with ultra-fine, polished and velvety tannins that run the length of the wine. Medium-bodied. Very classy.

The 2021 Trotanoy was picked September 27 to October 4. This has one of the most marine-influenced aromatic profiles among the Pomerol wines tasted, very well defined and even uncompromising in some ways, revealing touches of iris flower and sea cave. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. A typical Trotanoy structure: maybe aloof in some ways, yet compelling at the same time. Sappy on the persistent finish. This should turn into a very cerebral Pomerol that will appeal to those who adore this estate. Not for the first time, this is JP Moueix's star this year.

Deep crimson. Intense dark plum, black cherry, dark chocolate/ carob aromas with graphite inky notes. Supple chocolaty wine with abundant musky plum, mulberry, kirsch fruits, fine chocolaty/ chalky textures, some spicy notes and vanilla/marzipan/roasted chestnut. A touch soupy at the finish. 100% merlot.
