col d'orcia
COL D'ORCIA Riserva, Brunello de Montalcino 1990 Bottle
About this wine
Col d’Orcia Riserva, Brunello de Montalcino
Col d’Orcia Riserva is drawn from the estate’s oldest Sangiovese vineyards on the south-west slopes of Montalcino, an area known for steady ripening and balanced structure. Produced only in stronger vintages, it reflects a long-held focus on site and restraint rather than power. Col d’Orcia has been organically farmed for decades, with careful selection at harvest to ensure concentration without excess.
Fermentation is traditional, followed by extended ageing in large Slavonian oak casks, allowing the wine to develop slowly and retain clarity. Time in bottle before release is an essential part of the process, shaping the wine’s composure and longevity. The style is classical Brunello, guided by continuity rather than fashion.
The nose typically shows sour cherry, dried herbs and hints of leather and spice. On the palate, the wine is firm and layered, with red fruit, savoury notes and finely grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps the finish long and balanced, giving confidence both at the table and in the cellar.
