COMANDO G La Brena 1er Cru Garnacha, Sierra de Gredos

Comando G’s La Breña 1er Cru is a tiny-production, high-altitude Garnacha from a steep, north-facing 0.3–0.5-hectare parcel of 40-plus-year-old vines in the Alto Alberche valley above Villanueva de Ávila, on shallow, granitic and sandstone soils that deliver striking acidity and lift. Farmed organically with a clear Burgundian “cru” mindset, the fruit is fermented as whole bunches and then raised mainly in large old foudre or concrete, giving a pale, perfumed wine that is more about finesse and mineral definition than weight. Recent releases, including 2020 and 2022, sit around 95–96+ points from Luis Gutiérrez and other leading critics, praised for their rose, red-berry and grilled citrus perfume, ultra-fine granite tannins and almost salty, mouth-watering finish, marking La Breña as one of the most sought-after, Burgundian-styled Garnachas of the Gredos mountains.
