Langton’s Selections Diamond Valley White Label Pinot Noir Diamond Valley was established in 1976 by the Lance family. Since first release in 1982, the Pinot Noirs have enjoyed a loyal following among collectors. The business was recently acquired by Graeme Rathbone, the brother of Doug Rathbone, the owner of Yering station, Parker Coonawarra Estate, Mount Langi Ghiran and Xanadu. The wines are made by James Lance, which has meant continuity of winemaking philosophy. Much of the fruit is sourced form the Lance Family’s Vineyard. Vineyard management follows low input philosophy. Special attention has been given to canopy management and sun exposure. The White Label Pinot Noir is a classical style with plum/dark cherry characters, minerality and underlying savoury oak. The Blue Label Pinot Noir is made from locally grown fruit and is widely regarded as great value. The Lance family kept the home vineyard when they sold the Diamond Valley business. While the vineyard does supply fruit to Diamond Valley the magic of the Close Planted Pinot Noir is expressed in the Lance Family’s new label Punch. Diamond Valley. Now a negociant type business it will need to reinvent itself to establish momentum on the secondary wine market. The White Label Estate wines include a Chardonnay, Cabernets, Merlot and Shiraz. These have all been well received in various media and wine show forums. The Blue Label range includes Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Cabernet Merlot, Shiraz Viognier and the Pinot Noir.
