About this wine
Domaine Arnaud Aucoeur Cuvée Tradition Vieilles Vignes, Moulin-à-Vent
If Morgon is Beaujolais’ Côte Rôtie, Moulin à Vent is its Gevrey-Chambertin. While comparisons like these are fun to make, Moulin à Vent is a terroir of granite, delivering firm wines of a ferrous, meaty and darker fruited disposition than elsewhere. It is the most lauded of the region’s 10 crus, oscillating between the top position with Morgon. Suckling praises its ‘…sappy and rather mineral finish’.

Expert Review
Roger Voss
This wine has density, ripe tannins and plenty of concentration from the old vines. Its impressive structure and richness are set for aging. The wine needs time and will be best from 2022.

James Suckling
Brimming with ripe red fruit, this is a very juicy and rather generous Moulin-à-Vent with lively acidity and a long, slightly sappy and rather mineral finish. Drink or hold.

Arnaud Aucœur is the oldest family Domaine in the village of Morgon. Owner/Vignerons since 1825, the Vignoble Aucœur was established at Villié Morgon. Its Crus are planted to a dozen hectares of the most prestigious appellations of the region, including Morgon, Fleurie, and Moulin-à-Vent.
Production is done manually, with the traditions of the first generations of the Aucœur family being honoured. The passing down and inheritance of knowledge and experience is a fundamental value for the Aucœur family. To this end and the perpetuation of the family legacy, Arnaud Aucœur (2020 Beaujolais Winemaker of the Year, Guide Hachette) makes some of his wines, including the Moulin-à-Vent, in wooden containers. Barrels, tons and semi-casks are housed on the farm. Morgon, Fleurie, Moulin-à-Vent, Brouilly, Saint-Amour, Chiroubles, Régnié, Juliénas, Chénas, Beaujolais Villages, or Beaujolais–their wines are all raised, vinified and packaged according to particular emotional and technical conditions of their Domaine. The wines are fruity and distinct, Jancis Robinson MW described the 2018 vintage of the old vine Villages as '...gorgeously voluptuous.'
