Domaine Bruno Clair Clos du Fonteny 1er cru Monopole, Gevrey-Chambertin

Situated in the upper section of Les Fontenys, adjacent to Grand Cru Ruchottes-Chambertin, Clos du Fonteny is a 0.67-hectare walled monopole owned exclusively by Domaine Bruno Clair. The vines sit on steep, well-drained slopes of poor white clay over hard limestone, yielding a lighter-soiled terroir that lends the finished wine distinct finesse and mineral tension.

Bruno Clair and winemaker Philippe Brun focus on minimal intervention. Hand-harvested fruit undergoes partial whole-bunch fermentation with indigenous yeasts, followed by 18 months of ageing in French oak barrels, using modest proportions of new oak to preserve the vineyard's identity.

The nose offers red cherry, wild raspberry, violet and crushed stone, accompanied by subtle earth and savoury spice. On the palate, focused acidity structures ripe red-fruit flavours, supported by chalky, fine-grained tannins that deliver persistent length and clarity across vintages.
