Camille Giroud Les Crais, Gevrey-Chambertin

Camille Giroud has long been known for its thoughtful approach to classic Burgundy. Les Crais is a well-situated lieu-dit in Gevrey-Chambertin, with stony soils that naturally limit yields and encourage depth of flavour. Under the guidance of winemaker Carel Voorhuis, the domaine works with a light touch in the cellar. Fermentations use native yeasts and whole bunches where appropriate, with élevage taking place in carefully selected French oak, only a small portion of which is new, to allow the terroir to speak clearly.

Each vintage of Les Crais reflects its origins, typically offering aromas of red and black cherries, earthy spice and a hint of savoury game. The palate shows balance between fruit and structure, with fine tannins giving shape and persistence. This is a wine with the pedigree to drink well in its youth while rewarding cellaring over the medium term.
