About this wine

Domaine de Montille Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne

This Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne comes from the former Pinot Noir planted plot known as ‘Corton-Pougets’. In 2005, Domaine de Montille grafted Chardonnay on to the newly purchased 35-year-old vines. Some of the older vines in the lower end of the plot were replanted.

The fruit is hand-picked, then pressed before being allowed to settle prior to fermentation takes place in 600L and 228L barrels. Only a slight amount of new oak is used and is adjusted for the vintage but never more than a quarter. After about a year the wine is racked off into stainless steel to maintain freshness. This same approach is taken with the 1er Cru ‘Le Cailleret’ to create virile, expressive wines. Unlike ‘Le Caillerets’ this Grand Cru will require some time (6 to 8 years cellaring) to show its full potential.

ABOUT THE WINERY
Domaine de Montille
Domaine de Montille is a top Côte de Beaune domaine renowned for producing some of the purest, most elegant and harmonious expressions of Pinot Noir to be found in Burgundy. Established in Volnay in 1951 by Hubert de Montille, the majority of production was sold in bulk to négociants for many years. Over time the domaine acquired additional parcels in Volnay and Pommard with more recent purchases in Corton, Beaune and Vosne Romanee. Today the domaine is run by Hubert’s son Etienne, who adheres to a traditional winemaking philosophy. Built to age, the wines take at least five years to begin showing their full potential.
