About this wine
Gagnard's daughter Caroline Lestimé’s 0.34ha plot, formerly Pinot Noir, was replanted in 1990 to Chardonnay. The vineyard faces south-east at 250m altitude, half-way up a moderately-steep slope of stony clay over limestone blocks. Viticulture is certified organic and biodynamic. Hand-picked grapes undergo a delicate pneumatic pressing before 24 to 48 hours static settling in tank followed by indigenous yeast alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in 228 litre oak barrels at 18°C. The wine matures for 18 months aging on lees in barrels (30-35% new) at 10-12°C

Allen Meadows
A cool and airy nose offers up hints of grapefruit, spice and pretty white floral nuances. The middle weight flavors aren't quite as dense as those of the Chaumées, but they do possess excellent cut and punch while displaying very good length on the youthfully austere finale. Very promising as well.

Pale lemon and lime, apples with a light peach nose. Then pure white fruit and there are some stones coming up through the middle, good news because otherwise the profile here is a little riper than the other so far. 54 hl/ha.

Decanter
Notes of passionfruit and coconut, with a hint of grapefruit on the initial attack. The aromas are somewhat marked by the oak at present, but this should resolve with time. This is produced with grapes located in a 0.34ha parcel in the lower part of Maltroie. Lestimé esteems it a 'second level premier cru' and in fact it lacks the incisive energy and vibrant acidity of the sites higher up on the slope. The grapes are lightly crushed prior to pressing, and the must is run into cask (one-third new) for fermentation.
94 points, Charles Curtis MW, Decanter.
