About this wine
All but a monopole, with the Leflaive holdings taking up every row but for a minuscule parcel at the southern tip. As Jasper Morris MW notes in his seminal guide to the region, Inside Burgundy, Clavoillon is responsible for precise, measured, subtle and distinguished wines. If there is a clear echelon of aristocracy in Puligny, Domaine Lefalive is the doyenne. We refer to the feminine form of the noun given that the estate has been under the matriarchal influence of Anne-Claude Leflaive in recent times, undergoing a conversion to full biodynamics in 199. Subsequently, the wines have never been as good.

Allen Meadows
An overtly floral suffused nose displays notes of pear compote, citrus confit and subtle spice wisps. There is excellent vibrancy to the attractively textured medium weight flavors that also exude a refreshing salinity on the citrusy, dry and notably more complex finish that is perceptibly firmer. This should age well.

Fresh vibrant lemon and lime colour. There is plenty of energy to the nose, a juicy quality, pear and fresh but ripe apple. Plenty of volume from the start then draws in to a tighter finish. Juicy and agreeable but not quite the precision. Will be ready soon and will keep well also.

The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Clavoillon 1er Cru has an austere nose that demands coaxing from the glass; struck flint and sea spray scents, cool, calm and collected. The palate is taut on the entry, then fans out with glee, notes of dessicated orange peel, white peach and tangerine, a lovely bitterness that counterbalances the concentration on the finish. Exccellent.
