About this wine
DOMAINE MICHELE & PATRICE RION Clos des Argillieres, 1er Cru , Nuits-Saint-Georges
Hand-harvested and scrupulously sorted, the wine is fermented in open stainless steel tanks for around three weeks, then matured in oak barrels, about 50% new, for 18 months. The wine is dark and purple, with blackberries dominating the nose supplemented by blackcurrants and blueberries. Even if the nose is discreet in youth, its class is always evident. On the palate, it's concentrated, deep and elegant. The tannins are fine, but a certain firmness holds well. A welcome minerality supports the finish. Its elegant structure marries well with dishes such as saddle of lamb, rib steaks or duck breasts.

Jasper Morris MW
Pink limestone with 40 to 50cm of clay on top. Medium deep colour, bright fruit up front, clean and clear though there may be the slightest touch of savoury dry post hail character on the palate. The fruit is already covering it though. Clean and focussed.

Lovely stuff with everything in the right place and proportion. Still youthful but the class of the vineyard shines out. Long and sophisticated. Great tannin and fruit balance. Hint of chestnuts. Not super-fruity – just eloquent.

Finely laced with svelte tannins doused in ironstone, bing cherry, lilac and musk. A gorgeous, sensorial experience, such is the perfume! The sort of Burgundy that proves to be a gamechanger. Yet while the attack is pretty and enticing, the finish is typcilaly firm and forceful, with a long growl. Very good NSG.
