About this wine
Domaine Michele & Patrice Rion Clos Saint-Marc 1er cru Monopole, Nuits-Saint-Georges
This is a wine with a strong personality. Deep, dark and intense, foreshadowing a powerful nose. Wild cherries dominate the nose, along with a typical Nuits warm-earth aroma, though without any heaviness. The wine shows a full body on the palate, with incomparably silky tannins giving a rich meatiness. The balanced finish leaves the impression of opulence, and an unparalleled length is supported by minerality and a lovely complexity. Its strong character works well with juicy, meaty dishes

93-96 points. There is significant power to the black purple colour. The 2020 Clos St-Marc is sitting back on its haunches before delivering a power packed finale, certainly in dark fruit but livened up by the percentage of whole bunches, which bring out a little more in the way of red fruit. Clos St-Marc is often a stand-out in the Rion cellar, and maxime has certainly delivered something special with the 2020. Tasted: November 2021.

91-94 points. A ripe but cool and pure nose is comprised by notes of black raspberry liqueur, anise, violet, wood spice and a hint of the sauvage. The suave and palate drenching flavors possess both good energy and minerality before culminating in dusty, youthfully austere and firm finish. This attractive if compact effort is also going to need at least a modicum of patience.
