Domaine Naturaliste Purus Chardonnay, Margaret River

Domaine Naturaliste's Purus Chardonnay is Bruce Dukes' most focused expression of Margaret River fruit. Grapes are drawn from carefully selected sites, where soil and aspect combine to give both intensity and line. Purus is made in small volumes, with a precise aim of bottling Chardonnay at its most transparent. Fermentation occurs with wild yeasts in fine French oak, a proportion of which is new, followed by extended maturation on the lees to build texture and shape. The result is a wine that reflects place and season without distraction. Each release exhibits a consistent aromatic profile of citrus, stone fruit, and struck match, balanced by a palate of lemon, white peach, and a mineral edge. Time in the bottle further develops complexity, drawing out hazelnut, oatmeal, and saline characters. For collectors and drinkers alike, Purus is one of Margaret River's benchmark Chardonnays.
