Domaine Frédéric Roch Argillieres 1er Cru, Nuits-St-Georges

Founded in 1988 by the late Henry-Frédéric Roch, co-owner of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Prieuré Roch has built a formidable reputation for uncompromising, low-intervention Burgundy. Situated on a steep slope facing east, Les Argillières is a coveted Premier Cru parcel in Nuits-Saint-Georges. Its thin layer of topsoil over deep clay and limestone gives the vines direct access to rich mineral deposits, shaping a Pinot Noir of exceptional depth, structure, and terroir-driven clarity.

The winemaking remains steadfastly traditional and natural. Whole clusters undergo wild-yeast fermentation in open wooden vats, without added sulphur or temperature control. The wine matures on its lees in French oak barrels, allowing the vineyard's natural character to express itself fully before bottling, without fining or filtration.

Every vintage delivers a distinctive, lifted nose of whole-bunch spice, dark cherries, dried rose petals, and earthy forest floor. The palate is tense and focused, driven by energetic red fruit, firm fine-grained tannins, and a persistent, saline mineral finish that ages magnificently.
