Domaine Thénard 1er Cru Les Bois Chevaux Givry

The Bois Chevaux, another Premier Cru, is situated farther down the hill. The vines are 60-80 years of age, deeply established to glean the necessary nutrients from the ferrous soils. Also east-facing aspect, a long, slow ripening pattern is de rigueur. This said, Boix Chevaux is ever so slightly warmer than its sibling vineyard, positioning the wines in a more lithe, fulsome and approachable guise.

The ambient fermentation and extraction regime remain staunchly traditional, although this cuvée sees a higher portion of foudre and a lower percentage of used barrels. This approach encourages less oxygen ingress and with that, a welcome tension and freshness. The fruit profile is plump, fragrant and delicate, with a more toned tannic sinew serving up delicious drinking at an earlier stage, while promoting a seamless glide of flavour across the palate.
