Dr Loosen Urziger Wurzgarten Riesling GG, Mosel-Saar-Ruwer

Dr Loosen’s Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling GG comes from one of the Mosel’s most distinctive vineyards. The Würzgarten, or “spice garden”, is a steep, red volcanic slate site that produces Rieslings with a unique profile, quite different from the blue slate of neighbouring villages. The vines here are ungrafted, and many are well over a century old, resulting in naturally low yields and remarkable concentration.

Winemaker Ernst Loosen works with traditional techniques, including whole-cluster pressing and fermentation in large, old oak casks, allowing the vineyard character to shine without overt winemaking influence.

Each vintage shows the vineyard’s signature character: an aromatic nose with citrus, stone fruit, and exotic spice. The palate is structured and dry, with vivid acidity balanced by depth and complexity. This is a Riesling that rewards cellaring, gradually revealing further layers of texture and flavour, while showcasing the individuality of one of Germany’s most celebrated sites.
