Fontodi’s Gran Selezione Vigna del Sorbo is sourced from a single vineyard in Panzano, Chianti, where vines rooted in galestro soils produce fruit of remarkable depth. The site sits within the celebrated “Conca d’Oro,” a natural amphitheatre long prized for its balance of ripeness and freshness. Giovanni Manetti and his team manage the vineyard organically and with close attention to low yields, ensuring concentration without excess. In the cellar, the wine is fermented in stainless steel before ageing in French oak barrels, with a measured proportion of new oak that supports but never overwhelms the fruit.

Each vintage of Vigna del Sorbo offers a clear expression of Sangiovese, with aromas of sour cherry, dried herbs, and cedar, accompanied by a savoury undercurrent that reflects the site’s character. On the palate, firm structure and freshness are carried by dark red fruit, with fine tannins that give the wine the ability to evolve gracefully over time.
