About this wine

Clos is a wine of remarkable complexity exhibiting fruity, floral and spice characters with well-defined minerality in a powerful and generous style. This exceptional wine comes off a 0.54ha parcel of vines from the largest and most famous 27 ha Les Clos Grand Cru vineyard in Chablis. The south facing slopes are composed of dense deep clay soils with very high limestone content. Raveneau hand picks the grapes and uses only stainless steel for fermentation. Malolactic fermentation and maturation takes place in 7-8 year old oak over 12-18 months.

ABOUT THE WINERY
Francois Raveneau
Domaine Francois Raveneau is considered one of the very finest producers in Chablis crafting small quantities of wines with exceptional intensity, typicity and longevity predominantly from Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards. The domaine was established by François Raveneau in 1948 by consolidating his own vineyards with those owned by his wife’s family. During the 1960’s & 1970’s prices for vineyard land in Chablis slumped. François took advantage of this environment to expand the domaine’s vineyard holdings. Today the domaine comprises 9.29 ha including three sites within Chablis Grand Cru vineyards Les Clos, Blanchots and Valmur. Further land is owned within six Chablis Premier Cru vineyards including Montée de Tonnerre, Butteaux, Foret, Vaillons, Montmains and Chapelot. Now run by Francois’ sons Bernard and Jean-Marie, the domaine continues to uphold its stellar reputation for exceptional quality and consistency. The wines are fermented in stainless steel and subsequently matured in old oak barrels for twelve to eighteen months.
