G.D. VAJRA Albe, Barolo 2020 Bottle
About this wine
G.D. VAJRA Albe, Barolo
The Vajra family produces Barolo Albe by blending Nebbiolo from three distinct high-altitude vineyards in the commune of Barolo. Fossati, Coste di Vergne and La Volta provide varied exposures, allowing the fruit to capture different intensities of morning sun. This wine is inspired by the sunrise, or "Albe", over these slopes. The goal is to create a balanced Barolo that reflects the region's harmony rather than the character of a single plot.
Winemaking prioritises transparency and elegance. Fermentation takes place in custom stainless steel tanks with maceration lasting approximately forty days. Giuseppe Vajra ages the wine in large Slavonian oak casks for thirty months. This traditional approach avoids the heavy influence of new wood, ensuring the tannins soften while the natural fruit profile remains at the forefront. The wine is then settled in the bottle before release.
The nose offers scents of red cherry, rose petal and white pepper. On the palate, the wine is bright and medium-bodied, featuring flavours of plum, cranberry and dried herbs. Fine tannins and a saline finish provide immediate drinkability while maintaining the structure necessary for cellaring. Albe represents exceptional value for Australian collectors seeking a reliable, high-quality introduction to the prestige of the Barolo region.
