GIACOMO FENOCCHIO Bussia, Barolo DOCG 2018 Bottle
About this wine
Giacomo Fenocchio Bussia, Barolo DOCG
Giacomo Fenocchio remains a benchmark for those who value the stripped-back honesty of traditional Barolo. Based in Monforte d’Alba, the estate relies on the Bussia vineyard, a site famed for its complex soils of blue marl and tuff. Claudio Fenocchio manages the land with a commitment to his father's methods, ensuring the wine reflects its terroir rather than cellar artifice.
The production follows a strict classical protocol. The grapes undergo natural fermentation with exceptionally long maceration on the skins, often lasting up to 40 days. This is followed by three years of maturation in large, neutral Slavonian oak casks. This approach avoids the aggressive spiciness of new wood, allowing the Nebbiolo grape's structure to develop slowly and naturally.
Consistency is the hallmark of the Bussia cru. On the nose, you will find rose petals, forest floor, and a distinct hint of balsamic. The palate offers firm tannins and a core of red cherry and liquorice. It is a wine of significant poise and longevity, offering the prestige of Barolo with the rugged character of the Monforte hills.
