GIACOMO FENOCCHIO Villero, Barolo DOCG 2018 Bottle
About this wine
Giacomo Fenocchio Villero, Barolo DOCG
Giacomo Fenocchio produces this Barolo from the Villero vineyard in Castiglione Falletto. The vines grow in soils rich in iron, clay, and limestone at an altitude of 300 metres. This specific site is celebrated for its south-western exposure, which ensures the Nebbiolo grapes reach full phenolic ripeness. The Fenocchio family has managed these parcels for generations, adhering to a philosophy that prioritises the land's historical identity over modern trends.
Claudio Fenocchio employs traditional winemaking methods to maintain the purity of the cru. The grapes undergo natural fermentation in stainless-steel tanks with indigenous yeasts. This process includes an extended maceration of the skins for up to forty days. The wine then matures for six months in stainless steel, followed by thirty months in large Slavonian oak casks. This long ageing in neutral wood allows the wine to develop structure without adding external flavours.
The nose delivers aromas of dried rose, liquorice and spice. On the palate, the wine is full and rigorous, featuring flavours of dark cherry, tar and forest floor. Firm tannins and a saline mineral note provide a long, savoury finish. This Barolo offers Australian collectors a classic expression of Piedmontese viticulture. It represents excellent value for those seeking a prestigious wine with significant cellar potential.
