About this wine
HENSCHKE Cyril Henschke Cabernet Sauvignon, Eden Valley
Cyril Henschke Cabernet is a beautifully perfumed wine with intense pure blackcurrant cedar meaty characters, fine-grained tannins and savoury, vanillin oak complexity. Fourth generation winemaker and visionary Cyril Henschke purchased this elevated 500 metre Eden Valley property on Cranes Range Road in the late 1960s. His son Stephen and Prue Henschke established the existing dry-grown single vineyard with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc vines in 1988.
The well-exposed north-facing vineyard, farmed using organic and biodynamic principles, is planted on well-drained duplex soils; typically sandy loams over gravel and bedrock with patches of clay. After vinification in "headed down" open fermenters, the wine completes fermentation and is matured for 18 months in 60% new and 40% seasoned French oak.

Andrew Caillard MW
Medium deep crimson. Fragrant cassis, dark plum, sage aromas with hint marzipan notes. Inky deep and generous with saturated blackcurrant, dark plum fruits, some attractive herbal/ sage/ bush garrigue notes, lovely mid-palate density and underlying grilled nut notes. Finishes bittersweet with persistent cassis/ graphite/ brambly notes. A lovely claret style infused with the perfume and terroir of the Eden Valley. 14.5% alc Drink 2027 – 2042

Savory and earth-driven aromas of blackcurrants, thyme, plums, licorice and graphite. The palate is full-bodied with ultra-fine tannins and bright acidity, giving notes of mulberries, dried herbs, dark cherries and spices. Extremely complex, elegant and refined, with tightly integrated tannins that will evolve gracefully over the coming decades. Excellent.
