HENSCHKE Mount Edelstone Limited Edition Collector 6 pack Shiraz, Eden Valley

The Henschke family has tended the Mount Edelstone vineyard in the Eden Valley for over 70 years, though the site itself dates back to 1912. This 16-hectare vineyard is unique for its deep red-clays and ancient siltstone soils, which produce Shiraz with a distinct character often defined by notes of sage, bay leaf and crushed rocks. Now managed under organic and biodynamic principles by Prue Henschke, the site is one of Australia’s most significant single vineyards, producing wines that are consistently sought after for their longevity and site-specific identity.

The 2021 vintage is already being hailed as a modern classic for the region. After a cool summer and a mild autumn, the fruit was harvested between late March and early April with excellent tannin maturity and flavour intensity. Winemaker Stephen Henschke matured the wine for 18 months in a combination of 80% French and 20% American oak hogsheads. Notably, only 9% of this oak was new, a deliberate choice to allow the pure fruit of the 112-year-old vines to remain the primary focus.

This limited-edition collector’s pack, presented in a Henschke wooden box, contains six bottles of the exceptional 2021 release. Critics have responded with high praise; Andrew Caillard MW awarded the wine 99 points, describing it as a "gorgeous reference Eden Valley Shiraz." Dave Brookes for the Halliday Wine Companion gave it 98 points, noting its "velvety and graceful flow" and "superfine tannins." These scores reflect a wine of immense depth that is built to cellar for 30 years or more.
