Houghton C.W. Ferguson Cabernet Malbec, Great Southern
The second wine in a triumvirate of Cabernet-dominance is CW Ferguson Cabernet Malbec. Named after early Houghton winemaker Charles William Ferguson this is a ‘lively and sinuous’ expression, according to Huon Hooke. The Malbec imparts a plummy core with lilts of lilac and other purple florals, while the Cabernet component constructs the latticework of compact tannins and juicy maritime acidity, within which all else falls. A mid-term proposition, this is a powerful wine from the cooler reaches of the deep Great Southern that is nevertheless, the cuvée to breach first.
