About this wine

Howard Park Chardonnay, Margaret River

Howard Park Chardonnay is made from fruit grown in the prestigious Allingham vineyard, located in the Karridale subregion of Margaret River. With a south-east to south-west aspect, and an elevation of 40-80 m, the gravel and sandy clay loam soils of the Allingham vineyard are planted to Gingin and Dijon (95, 96) clones, with a vine age spanning 6 – 20 years. The best Gingin fruit, from the oldest vines, goes into Howard Park’s flagship chardonnay, the Allingham, while the next best selection makes the cut for this exceptional house label. The fruit is pressed direct to barrel where it’s allowed to ferment with indigenous yeasts. Barrel size ranges up to 600 litres, with approximately 20% new oak. Howard Park Chardonnay is a canvas that encourages the makers to express their winemaking prowess, from handling and bâtonnage through to barrel selection for the final blend.

ABOUT THE WINERY
Howard Park
Howard Park was established by Jeff Burch and John Wade in the mid-1980s and quickly achieved notoriety for its wines. John Wade, a highly innovative and well-respected winemaker, made the first wines. In the late 1990s, after considerable success in the market place, Howard Park decided to move its red wine production to Margaret River to take advantage of its reputation and proximity to a larger population base. Today the winemaking team continues to innovate, producing a range of highly regarded wines from select vineyard sites across Western Australia including Mount Barker, Porongurup, Denmark, Frankland River and Margaret River.
