Jacques Selosse is a name that redefined grower Champagne. Based in Avize, Anselme Selosse, and now his son Guillaume, work exclusively with Chardonnay from the Grand Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs, crafting wines that challenge and inspire. Brut Initial is drawn from three consecutive vintages, sourced mainly from Avize, Cramant, and Oger, sites of deep chalk and remarkable expression. Fermentation and ageing occur in oak barrels, with extended lees contact bringing texture and savoury depth. Dosage is kept to a minimum to preserve the place's transparency. Each release balances richness and precision: aromas of baked apple, lemon zest, and brioche segue into a palate of chalk, citrus, and gentle salinity. This is a Champagne that speaks of soil as much as fruit, reflecting the Selosse philosophy of minimal intervention and maximum character—an origin rather than a style, and one of the most distinctive Blanc de Blancs in Champagne.
