About this wine

Jasper Hill Emily's Paddock is a dense muscular wine with graphite, red cherry, dark chocolate aromas, concentrated rich fruit flavours and sinewy dry tannins. Planted in 1975 and 1976, the un-irrigated north-east facing 3.2 hectare Emily's Paddock, was named after their eldest daughter who is now Jasper Hill’s winemaker. The insanely low yielding Shiraz vines, and a few rows of Cabernet Franc, lie on the slopes of the Great Dividing Range at approximately 320m above sea level. Maturation takes place in a combination of approximately 20% new and seasoned French oak for 14 months before bottling.

ABOUT THE WINERY
Jasper Hill
Located in the prime rolling countryside of Heathcote, Victoria Jasper Hill is regarded as one of Australia’s great Shiraz producers. The evocatively named, gorgeously scented and beautifully concentrated Emily’s Paddock and Georgia’s Paddock Shirazes have forged a remarkable reputation for their highly individual character and powerful aging potential. This is a very much a family enterprise woven by heart and the poetic intricacies of place. The vineyards are elevated at around 320 metres on the slopes of the Great Dividing Range on Cambrian derived soils of friable red-brown gravelly loams that run in a thin north-south non-continuous strip between 2 parallel fault lines. Jasper Hill’s vineyards are entirely biodynamic and winemaking philosophy is very much non-interventionist. Daughter Emily has now joined Ron Laughton as winemaker and together the father daughter duo produces a Nebbiolo, Cornella Grenache (from independent grower fruit), a Riesling and idiosyncratic Semillon alongside their flagship Shiraz offerings.
