James Suckling
This is still eye-poppingly youthful, but the spectrum of blue and black-fruit aromas is already like watching an IMAX movie. Touch of iodine. Amazing interplay of concentrated fruit, fine tannins and lively acidity give this great brilliance. Super-long finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2024. Screw cap.

Inky black colour, showcasing the concentrated black and blue fruits that reflect another low yielding vintage. Spiced damson, black cherry and raspberry, set against charcoal, bay leaf, crayon, liqourice and a touch of crushed rose petal and oyster shell. Plenty of tannins here, but as ever The Armagh knows how to inject just enough air and acidity in between them to give contrast and texture, and to draw the flavours out on your tongue. 100% French oak, Tom Barry winemaker, bottled unfiltered and unfined.

Jim Barry Wines' flagship is limited by site and low yielding vines. It's deeply concentrated, impossibly silky, balanced, long, palate-staining and vibrant. A cavalcade of mixed forest berries, clove, cinnamon, fresh tobacco, dark chocolate and leafy, eucalyptus-like herbal lift all play a role in this stellar release. Seamless, yet cinched with fine, silty tannin, all of this bolstered and lifted with a cool, briny acid profile. Elegant, and yet with power and presence.

Jim Barry
Jim Barry, named after the eponymous founding wine maker, is one of the stalwart wineries of the Clare Valley. In 1959 the late Jim Barry purchased land near the township of Clare, replanting much of it to vineyard. Under the leadership of managing director Peter Barry and sons Tom and Sam Barry the brand has gone from strength to strength. Jim Barry is best known for its flagship Shiraz The Armagh, but also produces an impressive range of wines including Riesling, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon from their vineyard holdings in the Clare Valley and Coonawarra.
