KAESLER WINES Old Bastard Shiraz, Barossa Valley 2022 Bottle
About this wine
Kaesler Old Bastard Shiraz, Barossa Valley
Planted in 1893 in the heart of the Barossa Valley, the twelve rows of ancient, dry-grown vines that yield Kaesler Old Bastard Shiraz are among the oldest in Australia. Named in homage to these stubborn, low-yielding plants, the site produces fruit with remarkable natural concentration.
Senior winemaker Stephen Dew harvests the fruit by hand. Open fermentation and gentle pressing precede up to nineteen months of maturation in French oak barrels. This careful approach lets the distinct character of the historic vines drive the finished wine.
The nose delivers dark plum, liquorice, espresso, and subtle spice notes. On the palate, expect concentrated blackberry, graphite, and fine-grained tannins that provide structure and exceptional length. It remains a benchmark Barossa Shiraz built for long-term cellaring.
