Deep colour. Lifted dark cherry, blackberry brambly praline aromas with mocha, roasted chestnut notes. Smooth and velvety textured with deep set blackberry, elderberry, dark liquorice flavours, plentiful fine bitter-chocolaty mouth-coating tannins and mocha ginger, roasted chestnut notes. Generous and ample bodied with superb vinosity and mineral length. Impressively balanced and elemental. Wait for a while to unfold. Might need to decant to release flinty notes.

This wine was chosen as an appropriate special release to recognise the 170th anniversary of Seppelt. This comes from a hill planted by Hans Irvine way back in 1888 but replanted with shiraz from 1999. The wine is a combination of two clones with one contributing the seductive blue fruits and the other, the St. Peters, contributing the savouriness. Interestingly the entire blend is made up of partial whole bunch fermented parcels. So, this is a wine with structure and control, yet with supple fruit and plushness. There is a beautiful purity which shines through on the engaging aromas and the bright palate.

Another member of the Coonawarra Trio of wines. This is predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with a combined contribution of 20% Merlot and Malbec. Such beautiful poise and expression of the region and how these three varieties marry into something spectacular. It’s medium bodied with a silky-smooth structure of fine chalky tannins and a fine-grained oak contribution. This has been expertly harnessed to give it shape and length. Then there’s the brightness and palate energy which takes it into another zone. The 2015 was also tasted and its showed the similar house style. The combinations of varieties for this wine have varied slightly in recent years. For instance, the 2010 used cabernet franc rather than malbec. In reviewing the three wines and other recent tasting notes I think the malbec contribution will ultimately result is more complete wines.

Coonawarra enjoyed a perfect 10 out of 10 growing season. The triumph is the alcohol which gives the wine a freshness, a clarity and perfect length and balance. The best Black Label Cabernet made to date from Wynns' vast viticultural resources across Coonawarra.

The 64th vintage. A wine of provenance. A wine of excellence. It ages superbly, yet is flattering when young. Perfect fruit at its core, with gentle flavours of cassis, blackberries and blueberries. It has depth, length and line, thanks to the fine, detailed tannins. Classy cabernet. This is up there as one of the finest to date. Bravo.

It's not a 'look at me' wine, but it's so beautifully well fruited, balanced and flavoured. This is a seriously good option for the cellar. The tannin is ripped with earth and coffee notes, the fruit is black-cherried and bountiful, it's svelte of texture and sustained through the finish. It's both faultless and characterful and, all things considered, is extremely well priced.

So silky, so effortless, such a beautiful expression of vineyard and vintage. Classic rose perfume, cherry and red fruits, subtle vanilla oak, and a wee bit of liquorice. Tannin is fine grained and supple, red fruits and boysenberry, perfect crispness of acidity, flowing from front to long finish with effortless charm. It will be magnificent in years to come. Site to glass with no static. Yes.

Very deep, intense, dark red/purple colour with a black fruit, black olive aroma, with a trace of machine oil. The wine is full-bodied and rich, dense and solidly concentrated, with abundant powdery, drying tannins and good persistence. A very successful Eden Valley shiraz.
