While this may sound like no mean feat, the smart acquisition of some of the Barossa and Eden Valley’s most established heritage vineyards suggests it may be more than just a pipe dream. Take today’s Confidential Shiraz from 2020, hailing from a vineyard with vines planted back in 1840. Mature, luscious, impressive – this is what you get when young blood takes on old vines.

While this particular vintage is as yet unreviewed, the previous incarnation of this Barossa shiraz received an impressive 95-point score from Dave Brookes. The winery makes the most of the blessed patches of terroir they preside over across the Barossa and Eden Valleys. All seven vineyards have been fully converted to biodynamic viticulture. The focus is on established vines with an impressive history – all are aged between 40 to 150 years, and this particular shiraz has the presence to prove it.
