Erin Larkin
Like the 2018 that preceded it, this is a wine of stature, precision and endurance. The tannins are fine and omnipresent, but then a cabernet without tannins would be like a person without purpose. This is direct, forthright and confident, with a core of pure, soft and unfettered berry fruits that cascade over the tongue and trail through the interminable finish. The piercing intensity of fruit on the middle palate echoes in the mouth. Truly, sublime.

Matured for 14 months in new and seasoned French oak (15% new). If this doesn't set your heart aflutter, I don't know what will. Featherlight and concentrated at once, this has tissue paper-fine layers of black cherry, blueberry, graphite, licorice, chalk and ferrous notes. The acidity is flowing and ripe, weaving the layers of flavour together; the oak, invisible. Another beautiful release, with undulating length through the finish. I bet it'll live an elegant age.

It spent 16 months in French oak (31% new). This is a wine of extraordinary quality. Small wonder winemaker Sue Hodder says it’s “amongst the best wines we have made”. It is mediumbodied, and so agile in the mouth, no one flavour dominates at any stage of its consumption.

Fermentation completed (after pressing) in hogsheads, matured for 18 months in French and American oak. Just when you think the oak may have been overplayed, the fruit comes charging through on the back-palate, finish and aftertaste. It lifts the whole feel of the wine, and is the consequence of sophisticated winemaking from vines planted as far back as '69.

Deep red/purple colour, with a rich, nutty aroma which invokes brazil nut and walnut, with a neat patina of oak. The wine has richness and fullness, very ripe flavours and no sign of eucalyptus-mint. Blackberry and plum, coconut and spice. Concentration plus. A surprisingly opulent shiraz for a Coonawarra and very impressive.
