About this wine
2022 Xanadu Chardonnays with Riedel Twin Pack, 6+1 Pack
To get the most out of these Margaret River marvels, drink from glassware designed to highlight the nuances of new world chardonnay. Our latest offer is a chardonnay 6-pack and twin pack of specialist chardonnay from Riedel.
In this 6-bottle pack, you will find
4 x Xanadu Reserve Chardonnay, Margaret River 2022 (RRP $120)
2 x Xanadu Stevens Road Chardonnay, Margaret River 2022 (RRP $120)
1 x Riedel Veloce Chardonnay Twin Pack (RRP $90)
The Xanadu Reserve Chardonnay Margaret River 2022 (RRP $120) is from the estate's oldest vines, planted in 1977. Over the last decade, Xanadu's Reserve Chardonnay has cemented its place as one of Margaret River's (and Australia's) finest chardonnays. The fruit is hand-picked and whole-bunch-pressed, followed by natural yeast fermentation in French oak (30% new). Like all Xanadu Chardonnays, the barrels are stirred over nine months. 2022 was a low-yielding, high-quality vintage for Xanadu, reflected in Ray Jordan's 98-point review in which he says, 'The palate is layered with nuances emerging at every turn.' The wine also won a gold medal at the 2023 LANGTONS Margaret River Wine Show, if we do say so ourselves.
The Xanadu Stevens Road Chardonnay Margaret River 2022 (RRP $120) is a single vineyard wine made from just 20 rows of 1987-planted vines in Black 2 of the Stevens Road vineyard. Hand-picked and whole-bunch-pressed before going into French barriques (25% new), which are made without any malolactic fermentation to preserve the wine's freshness and acidity. Sporting a 98-point review from Ray Jordan, the Stevens Road also has a strong 95-point review from Gary Walsh, who says, 'Balance between freshness and flavour is excellent here. Lovely wine.'
With wines as fine as these, you need the right glassware. This Riedel Veloce 6330/97 Chardonnay Twin Pack (RRP $90) is an impressive pair of state-of-the-art glass from Riedel's factory. The diamond shape (the wide bowl and tapered brim) works beautifully for expressive new world wines, as the extreme angles offer more space to develop the aromas from Xanadu's barrel stirring (cashew and nougat). These glasses are also mercifully dishwasher safe.
Save 29% on this 6-bottle plus glassware pack. That means the glassware and a bottle of Stevens Road are on us.

Has a slight struck match character, along with lime, grapefruit, white peach, some fennel, light spice and almond nougat. Medium-bodied, lively acidity with plenty of fine flinty texture, green olive , a little parmesan rind, citrus, white peach, and again that lovely almond gloss to temper the wine. Finish is lively and long. Balance between freshness and flavour is excellent here. Lovely wine.

The Reserve range represents the best of the vintage and 100% of the fruit for this wine comes from Xanadu’s oldest Chardonnay vineyard, the Lagan Estate. These grapes are the Gingin clone, which is specific to this area and gives the wines their signature style.

Product of the excellent, albeit quite small, ’22 vintage. Heady stuff on the nose with distinct pear and edgy lime characters with notes of oatmeal and cashew. The palate is layered with nuances emerging at every turn. A crystalline edginess cuts through, while complex flavours of quince, lemon pith and grapefruit reveal. There’s a dry savouriness that completes the palate which carries through to a very long finish. This has lots of cellaring time ahead of it.

This is generally a fine and more delicate Chardonnay compared to the Reserve. It works really well in this season, striking the balance between power and finesse. More citrussy than the Reserve with notes of stone fruit, popcorn and just a little oyster shell minerality. The crystalline palate is bright and lively with a deep intensity focused keenly to a long finish. Wonderful mouthfeel.
