The Mitolo Marsican Shiraz McLaren Vale 2019 (RRP $250) is the top-tier wine from McLaren Vale masters Mitolo. The Marsican (named after a bear native to the region of Abruzzo from where founder Bruno Mitolo hails) is based on a selection of the winery’s best barrels. The 2019 bottling is sourced from Mitolo’s Home Block and Lot 11 vineyards. The wine was matured in 100% new French oak hogsheads for 18 months, during which natural malolactic fermentation was allowed to occur. Dense, intense, pure and powerful, the 2019 Marsican needs a few years yet in bottle, but its prospects are great indeed. Brooding and muscular, the time in your cellar will allow this dark matter wine to unfurl to show its pedigree and live up to its potential. A brilliant wine, bravo!
